It’s been close to fifty years, but the second season Star Trek episode “Patterns of Force” has finally aired in Germany.
You may recall that “Force” finds the Enterprise arriving at a planet in which a former Starfleet captain has modeled the society of the world on the Nazi party. And even though it had been 23-years since the end of World War II when the episode was first made, it wasn’t aired in Germany on the public airwaves at the time–or any time since until recently.
The German government was still very sensitive about its Nazi past and refused to allow this episode of Star Trek to air on free public TV. (It did, however, air on pay cable during the ’90s.)
The episode aired last week at 10 p.m. with a warning that it may not be suitable for younger viewers.
