Sarah Connor, Knight Rider in, Jericho Out for Fall

March 18, 2008 By Michael Hickerson 9 Comments

It’s a case of good news/bad news for genre fans today. The Hollywood Reporter’s James Hibberd says a couple of genre-shows will be back next year while a fan-favorite has gone the way of the dodo bird.

First the bad news. Hibberd reports that despite fan protests, “Jericho” fans should enjoy the final two episodes airing this week and next as it’s likely all the series will get from CBS.

“CBS notes that the show gains from DVR viewership and online viewing, but after its performance the past two weeks, most doubt the citizens of ‘Jericho’ will live to fight another season,” Hibberd said.

Onto the good news. Last week, we reported that actor Thomas Dekker said that it looked like “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” was getting a pick-up for a second season. Indications at FOX are looking better these days. The ratings for the season finale were up and could be the factor that throws it over the top to bring the show back. Add to that a fourth installment of the film franchise which is on the way for 2009, and FOX could be looking to create some synergy between the home-theater and the movie-theater screens similiar to last year’s “The Simpsons Movie.”

Also on the good news side for mustang fans is news that NBC is in negotitations for a full-season of “Knight Rider.” The two-hour backdoor pilot movie generated high ratings for the Peacock network and it looks like a full series is a sure thing.

Riding the bubble is CBS’s “Moonlight.” The series could be back next year or it could be headed for the cancelation pile.

That is a real shame…..Jericho has been great and really deserves a pick-up by someone somewhere (SciFi maybe?) and still gets the axe.

While mindless cheese like the Knight Rider remake does get picked up for a series run.

All I want to know is whether “Reaper” gets another season or not. I’ve been bracing myself everyday for the possible cancellation. I really hope it doesn’t get the axe, because it deserves more than just one season.

I’m iffy on whether Moonlight should get a second season. The first 12 eps were quite good, but since those eps were produced the showrunner left, the second one to do so since the series began development.
I s’pose the post writer’s strike eps will be the real test.

As for Jericho… Nuts to you, CBS! *imagines scores of fans standing outside CBS headquarters, lazily tossing nuts around*

Well, the news about Jericho is still not definite. While James Hibberd is an excellent source for inside dope, CBS still hasn’t issued a formal death certificate just yet…although, many of us are thinking it will happen. I just hope that if it does, Carol Barbee will stick with her plan to farm out the show to other networks or the new media outlets.

And Kyle…no official word yet on Reaper, but we are expecting something soon from the CW.

CBS put the screws to Jericho all along. The first season they jumped it all around so you never knew when it would be on. I had to go out and buy the 1st season to see it all. I’m going to keep watching Jericho no matter where it surfaces. It’s CBS’s loss.

Hopefully “Jericho” will get picked up by another network as it really is one of the best shows on right now. At least they let us watch a second season, and hopefully the last episode will bring closure.

Well, “Supernatural” was up against “Lost” too, and that series (which gets nearly the same ratings as “Reaper”) got a swift renewal. So, who knows?

i love how the return of kght rider is good news. What nbc fails to realize is that it’s not about the piremire episode, it’s about that next episode, the thrid, the fourth.

    Good for Sarah Cooner! Woohoo!

“Reapers” fate was tied to how last week’s new episode performed according to reports. Since it was up against Lost, which goes after a similar demographic, I am not sure Reaper will make it…
