Just like the rabid but happily confused fans of the popular ABC series, the stars of “Lost” have questions about where the series is going this year and beyond, as well as what’s ahead for the residents of the mysterious island.

However, one advantage the actors have over fans is their close access to executive producers Damen Lindelof and Carleton Cuse. The actors recently put questions to the producers about the direction of the series and the fates of their characters. Lindelof and Cuse did reveal some interesting tidbits about where the series is going for the rest of season four and beyond.

One of the big question is just who are the members of the Oceanic Six? Lindelof said that the identities of the six people who leave the island will be known by the end of the season. In fact, the identity of all six will be revealed by the end of the episode on March 13. The details of the deal the six strike to leave the island, and their leaving the island is scheduled to be the end-point for the fourth season of the show.

The producers also said we’ll know who was in the coffin we saw in Jack’s flashforward last year by season’s end. Series star Jorge Garcia, who plays Hurley, asked point blank if it was Ben. The producers would neither confirm or deny that, though they joked that Garcia would just run down the entire cast if they let him to make sure it wasn’t his character who gets killed off.

When asked about the exact timeline for the flash-forwards, Lindelof said, “What’s fundamentally interesting about all the time-jumping is that we want it to make sense when people watch the show 10 years from now. We don’t want it to seem dated. So it’s not really about what year it is in the outside world, it’s about how many years have elapsed between the time that we’re watching on the island and the flash-forwards. That’s one of the fun games the audience is playing: “Gee, Aaron looks like he’s about 18 months old. What does that mean, and how old was he when they got off the island?”

The producers also confirmed that the flashforwards in last year’s finale were the farthest point we’ve seen into the future so far.

The cast did ask other questions, including the status of the Jack/Kate/Sawyer triangle, “We will say we haven’t seen the last of Sawyer and Kate this season,” said Lendelof. Juliet’s status as a bad-ass, “But the real inspiration for Juliet being a badass was Elizabeth herself. When she read for the part, she had this huge cast on her arm and was talking about her days of kickboxing,” Lindelof said. Whether or not Saywer will get another haircut and the potential for a flashback about Sayid’s childhood. “It wouldn’t necessarily be an entire flashback based in his childhood,” stated Lindelof. “But, there may be significant things that happened when Sayid was a kid that we need to reveal,” said Lindelof.
