The BSG RPG

December 27, 2006 By Kyle Nin 1 Comment

Gaming Report is releasing the news that Margaret Weis Productions will be making available a new ‘low-tech’ RPG based on the popular award-winning SCI FI Channel series “Battlestar Galactica”.

“When we established our company we made the commitment to produce character and story focused role-playing games using the best source material we could find,” Weis said in a press release. “Battlestar Galactica is the kind of science-fiction that we do best, where the drama and characters are more important than the guns and the gadgets. The very survival of the human race is at stake in the series, and exploring the story possibilities in the setting can make for some very exciting games.”

The RPG will mainly focus on the challenges of survival showing what difficult choices must be made under the severe circumstances faced by the show’s (game’s) characters. The game will use the same system as the best-selling and award-winning Serenity game, also produced by Margaret Weis Productions. The game book will be a full-color hardcover book featuring still images from the series, as well as original artwork. It will provide rules for play, character creation and information about the ship and crew of Galactica as well as the other main characters from the show.

According to SciFi Wire, a quick-start guide will be released in early 2007, with the core product premiering in the spring and additional products soon to follow.

The entire line will be supported by an interactive Web site, the Weis company said.

Battlestar Gallactica was one of my favourite serials. I am looking forward to play the game. I have also heard that the game “Stargate Worlds” will also be ready soon.
