M. Night and H. Potter?

July 9, 2006 By Sam Sloan 3 Comments

mnight.jpgWill M. Night Shyamalan ever get aboard the Harry Potter bandwagon? The rumor has been around from the early days of pre-production of the first Harry Potter movie. Now the famous director has spoken openly (well, somewhat) about that possiblity in an interview he did while on a promoting junket for his new film “Lady in the Water,” which is set to open on July 21st.

“You know, that Harry Potter dance has gone on a long time,” Shyamalan told ComingSoon.net. “The problem is that it is a living breathing thing now, all by itself. When it comes over to my camp, it needs to be kind of handed over, adoption papers and everything. That’s a tricky move.

“I haven’t met with J.K. [Rowling],” he continued. “The first one was offered to me, but that conflicted with Unbreakable, which was unfortunate. I would definitely, but I think probably before that I would adapt a book. I’ve gotten close a few times to adapting books.”

Once again the famed writer/director is as enigmatic as ever with a straight answer to an obvious question.

Part of me says YES… the rest of me says “Oh, no.” Looking forward to Lady in the Water though.

As I recall, he was also involved with an early script for Indy Jones 4. I’d be very curious to see what he came up with for either of these franchises, since he’s still one of my favorite working directors today.
