The re-vamped StarTrek.com website is back on the map as the premiere site for everything Trek. In that regard a new phase of the service is the feature called “FIRST PERSON” in which video interviews from their new headquarters at CBS Studios will be done with actors, directors, other personalities and behind-the-camera crew members from the long 40-year history of STAR TREK. While First Person interviews are not new to StarTrek.com, their format and look is more fresh and professional.
It’s first interview since the overhaul and relocation is with George Takei, who has played Sulu from the original series for the entire lifetime of the franchise. It is a hard-hitting interview where George speaks freely and openly about his being gay, but also uses the opportunity to talk about the sociological impact, political ramifications and the constitutionality of the gay/lesbian agenda. He thanks his fans and others for the overwhelming letters and emails of support he and his partner of over 20-years have received since the news broke last October.
His interview also takes a lighter side as he talks about his upcoming appearances at the varying STAR TREK conventions that are celebrating the franchise’s 40th Anniversary, his cameos on TV sitcoms and most importantly his highly anticipated appearance as Captain Sulu on the fanfilm Star Trek: New Voyages. When asked why he chose to do a fanfilm his answer was quite emotional as George related how STAR TREK may have been envisioned and created by Gene Roddenberry, it is the fans that have made it the 40-year phenomenom that it has become and it is to those fans that we wished to salute by performing in the Star Trek: New Voyages episode.
This is a wonderful feature from StarTrek.com and picking George as their premiere interview was a stroke of pure genius.

That was a great interview. I hope they keep this up. The video ran great, nice and clear – no buffering for me.
George Takei’s voice has always amazed me. I have a deep voice (a little deeper than Mike’s), but damn, I can feel my vocal chords aching listening to him.
I’d love to hear him to a Barry White cover one day. 🙂
