For folks who enjoy reading lists and examinations about various TV and film genres, the new A Viewing Guide to the Pandemic: Depictions of Plague and Pandemic on Film and TV by author and journalist Richard Scheib is a fun one to add to your library.
The book is an encyclopedia-catalog of US and international television shows and movies that depict various threats to humanity and civilization due to known and unknown contagions, viruses and other ways pandemics and plagues can devastate and destroy societies. They span the genre from fantastical scenarios to reality-based examples of biowarfare gone wrong, and Richard channeled his own fears brought about by the Covid-19 outbreak and lockdown.
Richard also limits his coverage of vampire and zombie stories to those that fit more into the viral or infection based spreads rather than any supernatural causes. His research is comprehensive, and he welcomes fans and readers letting him know of any he may have missed (yes, we covered the accidental oversight of The Strain).
A Viewing Guide to the Pandemic: Depictions of Plague and Pandemic on Film and TV is available now from your favorite retailers.
