It has already been 10 years since the Christopher Nolan epic Interstellar was released, and for a movie that was designed, produced and filmed with an IMAX presentation in mind, the movie is served well with this 4K UHD release.
This is a mixed format release, which is good for fans who would want to get this edition but have not yet fully invested in a 4K home system. I do not have a sound system that can take full advantage of this set, but I’m envious of those who will be able to enjoy this (HDR, no Atmos).
And yes, it comes with a code to redeem for a digital version.
This limited edition anniversary 4K set is a packed release, and since the feature film is presented on a 4K disc and blu-ray disc, for those cinephiles who have not yet upgraded to a 4K player/TV system yet, this is a lovely set. I’m not completely sold on the paper sleeve as a device to hold the discs, but they seem snug and unlikely to deteriorate due to frequent usage wear and tear.
The pocket that holds the booklet for the Miller’s Planet storyboards and the reproduction theatrical posters is also a safe-looking inclusion, though whether collectors would keep those with the discs or separate them out for display is a matter for individual collector preferences.
The separate Bonus Features blu-ray disc is loaded with fascinating featurettes and specials, mostly a collection of features from previous releases but also including a brand new one for this anniversary edition:

The other included physical extras make this a “must have” collectible for super fans of the film: the reproductions of the theatrical posters (there are 5 of them), and the inclusion of the mission patches.
I understand there wasn’t enough room inside the bound book to store these patches, but the placement and ease of extraction of the card with the patches could be problematic for those wishing to maintain the original integrity of the package. If not, it should be easy enough to remove the protective film slip cover, and reattach the back cover details card to the case.
To summarize, for fans of smart science fiction grounded in real science, this was always a good choice for a movie night, and this anniversary special edition is a great choice for both movie fans and movie collectors.
