Trailer: “28 Years Later”

Trailer: “28 Years Later”

December 10, 2024 By Summer Brooks 2 Comments

Academy Award®-winning director Danny Boyle and Academy Award®-nominated writer Alex Garland reunite for 28 Years Later, a terrifying new story set in the world created by 28 Days Later. It’s been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well.

Wait, we had 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later. Now they’re advertising 28 Years Later.
    …
What happened to 28 Months Later?
They better make that prequel before they even think about working on 28 Decades Later!

All joking aside, I wonder how this movie will turn out. Considering almost everyone who was infected, pretty much died from natural causes after 28 weeks, I suspect after 28 Years, the virus would have well and truly killed itself off, with human civilization being long gone. But that would make for a very different type of movie to what audiences would probably expect (one more akin to Mad Max than a zombie movie). So I’m curious as to what they’ll do.

I’m just gonna guess that it’s easier to do a triptych / trilogy of stories to show the long term effects on the world of the virus. There wouldn’t have been much of a change between Weeks and Months, but to show how devastating it was after Years seems perfect to me. I do wonder if they considered doing Months before skipping to Years, tho.

And the trailer shows a lot while not giving a single thing away… I like it!
