“Captain Marvel”: Lots of fun, but perhaps too formulaic?

Noah and Daren saw Captain Marvel, and they thought it was merely okay, not outstanding. Is this a case of the paint-by-numbers Marvel Cinematic Universe formula being relied on too much, or is the anticipation for Avengers: Endgame too distracting?
