Marvel Hit & Miss: “Captain America: Civil War” vs “X-Men: Apocalypse” Where one Marvel series soars and transcends genre, the other one stumbles

May 15, 2016 By Noah Richman and Daren Gulsvig 1 Comment

Noah Richman and Daren Gulsvig compare and contrast Captain America: Civil War and X-Men: Apocalypse, and where the one film succeeds beyond expectations, the other falls far from what the previous chapter in the franchise achieved.

Two new movies from the wildly successful Marvel properties have entirely different results, despite high expectations for both. The problems with characters and story that dominate X-Men: Apocalypse aren’t present in Captain America: Civil War (nor, in their opinion, were they in X-Men: Days of Future Past either).

Ratings:
Captain America: Civil War:5 stars out of 5
X-Men: Apocalypse: 3 stars out of 5

I jumped into Captain America Civil War without watching other Captain America movies. I felt like I missed Act 2 ant this movie was Act 4. As a supers pounding each other to bits you guys nailed it.

My problem with Marvel movies is simple — I get bored . Ant-man the exception.

Reckon I am the old B-movie kind of guy with the likes of “The Arrival” films as icing on the cake.
