Emma Ishta, "Stitchers"
STITCHERS — “Stitchers” follows Kirsten, a young woman recruited into a covert government agency to be “stitched” into the minds of the recently deceased, using their memories to investigate murders and decipher mysteries that otherwise would have gone to the grave. (ABC Family/Adam Rose) Emma Ishta

This week, Summer talks with Stitchers lead Emma Ishta about the breakout new hit “scifi procedural” for ABC Family. Emma plays Kirsten, a grad student whose unique neurological makeup makes her a perfect operative for a secret government program that’s able to examine the memories of newly deceased people to find out what really happened to them, or to uncover any information that might be lost with their deaths.

The chemistry between the characters and the fast-moving witty geek banter are engaging and appealing, and the additional exploration of how emotions (or lack thereof) affect people and interpersonal connections is fascinating. What remains to be seen (perhaps to be explored in the newly announced Season 2) are the bigger mysteries of the program and Kirsten’s familial connection to it.

The season finale airs August 4, so get in while you can to follow along with the Tuesday night live tweets from the cast via @StitchersTV and #Stitcherschat

And don’t miss our “5 Episodes In” review of Stitchers Season 1.

So, that one line that Emma and I talked about, about Kirsten taking Ed’s last name to make things easier, it wasn’t a scene that might have been edited out of the pilot episode… that exact conversation between Ed and the young Kirsten takes place in the season finale (which I’ve just watched, and WOW).

More on the season finale later… stay tuned.
