Slice of SciFi’s Best of 2014: Television Our Top Picks in Television from 2014

December 30, 2014 By Summer Brooks 3 Comments

Here’s what some of the Slice of SciFi crew thought made for some of the best television in 2014 (and no, some of us couldn’t stop at just 5 picks):

Sam Roberts:

1) Orphan Black
2) Arrow
3) Penny Dreadful
4) Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – soooo much better than when it started out
5) Supernatural – This makes the list on the basis of the 200th episode alone but all the Deanmon stuff is super good too
6) Cosmos
7) The Originals – I expected to like it, I did not expect to love it.

And special mentions for “near-genre” programs:

1) Sherlock
2) True Detective
3) Hannibal – I think this qualifies as horror; spectacularly beautiful, operatic horror

Bret Filipek:

1) Agents of SHIELD
2) The 100
3) Arrow
4) The Flash
5) Game of Thrones
6) Ascension (miniseries)
7) The Walking Dead
8) Under the Dome

Gini Koch:

1) Elementary – the best Sherlock on TV, with the coolest Watson
2) Arrow – love it even when Stephen Amell keeps his shirt on
3) The Flash – a great superhero counter to Arrow and a great show all on its own
4) Gotham – haven’t been blown away by the first episode of a TV show like I was with Gotham’s premiere in a long time

Daren Gulsvig:

1) Game of Thrones
2) The Walking Dead
3) Agents of SHIELD – the show has gotten much better
4) Outlander – the Diana Gabaldon adaptation

Tim Callender:

1) Agents of SHIELD
2) Doctor Who
3) Adventure Time

Sam Sloan:

1) Agents of SHIELD
2) Doctor Who
3) Game of Thrones
4) The 100
5) The Originals
6) The Vampire Diaries
7) The Big Bang Theory
8) Arrow
9) The Intruders
10) The Flash

Summer Brooks:

1) Constantine – best comics adaptation on TV now. Hands Down
2) Orphan Black
3) Game of Thrones

Kevin Bachelder, Tuning Into Scifi Television

1) Sleepy Hollow
2) Arrow
3) Agents of SHIELD
4) Orphan Black
5) Continuum

I may have to add Continuum to my list, but I haven’t caught up to the 2014 season yet, so I reserve the right to update my list when I get there 🙂

I was looking for Continuum on these lists. Can’t believe no one recognized it. The 2014 season was fantastic. Especially the finale. A real WTF episode.

I’ll probably be adding Edge of Tomorrow now aka Live, Die, Repeat, to my list. Missed the premiere and got the DVD, which we plan to watch soon. Looks excellent.
