Syfy Channel’s latest miniseries “Ascension” airs December 15-17, and producer Jason Blum (Blumhouse Productions, Sinister, Insidious, Paranormal Activity) joins Summer to talk about the show, and how the unique story aspects of the pitch hooked him from the start.

“Ascension” is an ambitious original drama following a covert U.S. space mission launched in the 1960’s that sent hundreds of men, women and children on a century-long voyage aboard the starship Ascension to populate a new world. Half way into their journey, as they approach the point of no return, the mysterious murder of a young woman causes the ship’s population to question the true nature of their mission.

The series stars Brandon P. Bell (Hollywood Heights) as the confident and capable First Officer Aaron Gault, Brian Van Holt (Cougar Town, The Bridge) as the eponymous ship’s captain William Denninger and Tricia Helfer (Battlestar Galactica) as Viondra Denniger, the Captain’s beautiful, manipulative and dangerous wife (who also serves as the ship’s Chief Steward).

Next, Summer shares a bit of geeky joy at discovering that one of Stephen Colbert’s last interview guests was none other than Smaug himself. Watching Colbert letting his geek flag fly high this past month before he ends the show entirely has been a lot of fun, but everyone should check out the Dec 11th show, either on Hulu or at The Colbert Report site at Comedy Central.

And if you’re in a giving mood, your donations through Omaze to either the Yellow Ribbon Fund or Donors Choose will enter you in a drawing to win either Colbert’s desk, or his fireplace set with the mantle and his 5th Anniversary portrait. Talk about your conversation pieces….

      Hi Mona!

We do not have anything to do with Syfy’s programming; you’d have to go to syfy.com to let them know how you feel about them canceling Alphas. But you should check out 12 Monkeys… it’s really good, too!
