HBO Orders “Westworld” to Series Nolan/Abrams series inspired by original Crichton film

HBO Orders “Westworld” to Series Nolan/Abrams series inspired by original Crichton film

November 17, 2014 By Summer Brooks 2 Comments

Jonathan Nolan and J.J. Abrams, creators of CBS’s hit Person of Interest, have a new project getting underway: HBO has ordered a full season of Westworld.

It will be a one-hour drama, under the tagline “Westworld is a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin.”

The announced cast includes Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden, Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright, Miranda Otto, Rodrigo Santoro, Shannon Woodward, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Angela Sarafyan, Simon Quarterman — other than the 90-minute pilot that was shot earlier this year, no other details are available yet beyond “in 2015”.

In an unusual move, HBO used Vine to release their teasers:

For Slice of SciFi fans and listeners, Jonathan Nolan is also still working on a potential adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s Foundation, also potentially a future HBO project.

I’m not sure that the conceit of Westworld can be extended into a full blown television series.

Apparently they changed a few things in the new pilot, so I’m curious to see what they’ve done, and how that will translate to a series.

Alas, I do not have HBO, but maybe this series and Game of Thrones are the big reasons why they are making the HBO Go app available next year to viewers and potential viewers who aren’t HBO subscribers. This increases my curiosity and the inclination to check it out.
