Chappie the Movie

Chappie the Movie

Neill Blomkamp’s (Elysium, District 9) next venture into science fiction comes by way of an unusual and unassuming film with a big budget cast. Chappie stars X-Men/Wolverine titan Hugh Jackman and the woman voted by most sci-fi fans as the toughest bitch and most gorgeous lady in the genre, Sigourney Weaver (Alien franchise). The last time Jackman dealt with robotics was in Real Steel. Weaver’s last bout with mechanical intelligence was as the voice of the ship’s computer for the highly successful Pixar/Disney feature WALL-E.

Chappie tells the tale of a boy kidnapped and raised as the adopted son of a couple that are themselves quite strange and dysfunctional. The lad shows early signs of brilliance with certain special gifts and abilities. What makes Chappie different from all those around him is the fact that he is an android.

Sharlto Copley (District 9, Europa Report) re-teams with Blomkamp to provide the voice and physicality as the animated robotic Chappie. Also on hand are Dev Patel (Newsroom) and Jose Pablo Cantillo (The Walking Dead).

Chappie, currently filming, is geared for a March 6, 2015 theatrical release.
