Science Channel today announced the green-light of the all-new series I F-ING LOVE SCIENCE, executive produced by late night star Craig Ferguson. The announcement was made by Ferguson to a crowd of more than 3,000 via a videotaped message at Science Channel’s live talent showcase at SXSW Interactive in Austin.
The series is inspired by the Facebook phenomenon, I F*cking Love Science, created by British biology student Elise Andrew which boasts more than 11 million fans. I F-ING LOVE SCIENCE will feature a novel multi-format mix of live-action, animation and recreations that demonstrate the random manifestations of science that connect us all. The series will debut on Science Channel in fourth quarter 2014 and is produced by Green Mountain West Productions and Karga7 Productions.
“If you know anything about me, you know I love science,” said Ferguson. “Science has a naughty secret – it’s that all things are connected. And this show is going to explore the randomness of science. Think of it as a late night Google search that goes a hundred pages deep until things get weird – and then you just keep going. And there is no better partner for this kind of smart entertainment like Science Channel and Elise.”
I F-ING LOVE SCIENCE follows one inalienable truth – that jaw-dropping, mind-blowing, science is present in everything. In each 60-minute episode, the show attempts to prove a grand, outlandish thesis that will take the viewer on twists and turns through the big and small of all things science. Each hour will delve into a bevy of unexpected but related topics, meeting celebrities, scientists and everyday people – each of whom f-ing love science.
“When I created my Facebook page three years ago I never could have imagined that it would resonate with a worldwide audience of 11 million followers,” said Andrew. “This partnership with Craig and Science Channel is an exciting new venture that I hope will encourage more people to embrace the amazing, wonderful world of science.”
“Today people are more excited than ever about science – and no one captured this passion like Elise Andrew and her Facebook phenomenon,” said Debbie Adler Myers, General Manager and Executive Vice President of Science Channel. “By combining her signature style with the comedic brilliance of Craig Ferguson, I F-ING LOVE SCIENCE will connect with this generation of science passionates unlike anything else on television.”
“Having been big fans of IFLS and Craig Ferguson for some time, we’re thrilled to be collaborating with them and our good friends at Science Channel on this exciting new series. We’ll be working closely with Elise to ensure the heart and soul of what she created translates to the screen. At the end of the day, our goal is to move millions of viewers to declare, ‘I f-ing love science!’” said Sarah Wetherbee, executive producer for Karga 7.
