Mythbusters Take on Zombies

Mythbusters Take on Zombies

October 17, 2013 By Summer Brooks 7 Comments

Mythbusters. The Walking Dead. Zombie slaughter. Michael Rooker. Too much fun for a single hour of television?

MythBusters hosts Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman along with 'Walking Dead' star Michael Rooker shoot a MythBusters/Walking Dead episode featuring nearly one hundred zombies at Mare Island, California

Not that it matters, because Discovery is giving it to us anyway! Tonight’s Mythbusters episode is a zombie-themed special, taking aim at such zombie apocalypse survival tips as which weapons are the most effective for terminating the shuffling undead, and if they always shuffle how do they catch their prey anyway?

Will Adam and Jamie dispel the myths that might otherwise have us choosing poorly in the middle of our own zombie apocalypse? Can they do it before falling victim to zombies themselves?

Adam Savage. Zombie.

The Mythbusters special zombie episode airs tonight, Oct 17, 10pm ET/PT on Discovery.

OK, ENOUGH Already!!! How can one “bust” myths about something that does not exist!!!!! The Walking Dead is a great show, but come on folks, are we that starved for ideas that we have to come up with this lame crap? Busting myths about cell phones blowing up cars at gas pumps is one thing , but come on, this show has jumped the shark.

So, people can’t have fun with entertainment tropes anymore? The episodes they’ve done busting movie “science” were funny and fun.

I didn’t see the zombie episode, but from the description, I thought it was more about which weapons would be more effective at dispatching large numbers of zombies, thus ensuring your ability to escape and survive.

Besides, you know Jaime can never pass up an opportunity to use a shotgun.

Why do you need to “escape” from something that does not exist?

        Use your imagination!

Haven’t you ever been dragged (against your will) to any huge sale like Black Friday, or when things get out of hand in any situation where hordes of people have been waiting in line for something, and they begin to get enraged and move en masse at the mere perception that what they want might not be there in that 3 seconds after the doors are opened?

Every time you see one of those on the news, how can you NOT think “zombie invasion” in that moment? You know that’s exactly what the folks who are working in the store are thinking… then you substitute “elbows” for “shotgun” or “machete”, and you begin to see possibilities for practical applications.

Plus, there are too many examples of people becoming zombies due to various medical or drug-induced scenarios, just as there are scenarios of people momentarily possessing superhuman strength to save a loved one, or other unusual phenomena. Never say never…

They’ve tested out other fictional TV and movie incredulities over the past 10 years… why does this one bug you so much?

I’m just hoping they bust the myth about those damn reindeer. The drag coefficient on their antlers would *completely* offset their speed, and noses simply do not work that way.

There ya go! “Next on Mythbusters: Taking out your childhood”

There’d be Tooth Fairy, Santa (the various incarnations), Easter Bunny, what are some of the other big ones….
