Piper Cast in Showtime Series “Penny Dreadful”

Ex-Doctor Who companion Billie Piper is set to join the cast of “Penny Dreadful,” the Showtime premium channel Victorian England horror series. She will star as an Irish immigrant on the run from a dark and violent past.

The weekly series will bring together a plethora of iconic figures from the genre’s past including the likes of Dr. Frankenstein and his creation, Dracula, Dorian Gray and others out of that literary period in history.

Shot on location in Ireland, Canada, the UK and the United States the show will boast of some marvelous sets and scenery.

Joining Piper are Timothy Dalton, Eva Green, Rory Kinnear, Josh Hartnett, Reeve Carey and Harry Treadaway.

“Penny Dreadful” was created by Oscar nominee John Logan (“Skyfall”) who will also write and co-produce the series along with director Sam Mendes (“Skyfall”) and producer Pippa Harris (“Jarhead”).

Showtime has announced a release date for sometime in 2014.
