Could We Get a “Pacific Rim” Sequel?

Could We Get a “Pacific Rim” Sequel?

August 1, 2013 By Michael Hickerson 2 Comments

Despite doing less than stellar business at the U.S. box office, Pacific Rim is playing well to the world-wide audience and could get a sequel.

The summer blockbuster opened in China and has delivered huge results.  The film took in $9 million on opening, the largest opening ever for a Warner Brothers movie in the country.

Pacific Rim is currently sitting in the top position at the global box office, taking $229 million overall. It will open in Spain, Brazil and Japan on August 9.

Pacific Rim was predicted a poor box office performance ahead of its opening last month.

Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi star in the movie set in a future where giant monsters called Kaiju rise from the ocean to plague mankind.

A sequel doesn’t make sense, but I think a prequel would be pretty good, maybe highlighting the first battles agaist the first wave of kaijus and the production of the prototype Jaegers and culminating with the unveiling of the Gypsy Danger.

Sign me up for that story. Maybe also show a little of how some of the regions that were attacked first each tried going it alone until they realized that working together was the only way to get Jaegers churned out fast enough.

I’d also love to see some early battles by Cherno Alpha and Crimson Typhoon, or some of the other older Jaegers that are in those posters but were never mentioned in the movie.
