Syfy is developing a series based on Terry Gilliam’s 1995 movie 12 Monkeys.
Chick Roven and Richard Suckle, who produced the original film, are reportedly on board the new project, which was pitched as a 90-minute backdoor pilot that would act as the lead-in to the series.
Nikita writers Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett will pen the script.
The original film starred Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt.
Syfy director of original programming Mark Sterns says the production team has a strong idea for the pilot and they’re working on fleshing out the other 12 episodes for a first season.
Syfy is also developing a new mini-series set in Oz called Warriors Of Oz. The project will be directed by Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter director Timur Bekmambetov and follows a warrior in the present-day who is transported to a post-apocalyptic future (Oz) where he teams up with three other warriors — Heartless, Brainless, and Coward — to defeat the evil Wizard who has enslaved the land.
We’ll have more discussion of the potential 12 Monkeys series on a future installment of Slice.
