Dennis Farina, age 69, died today in a Scottsdale, Arizona hospital of a pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lung).
Farina is known best for his dramatic roles in such films as Snatch, Striking Distance, Saving Private Ryan and Reindeer Games. He also starred in the television hit series Law and Order as Detective Joe Fontana.
Farina started out as a real cop but soon caught the acting bug in the early 1980s and became a regular entry in many popular TV shows and big screen films, starring alongside fellow thespians like Bruce Willis, John Travolta and Gene Hackman.
In genre related ventures Farina provided the voice of Ted Grant, a.k.a. Wildcat, for the Justice League television series.
He has two films yet to be released. Authors Anonymous (in post production) and Lucky Stiff. The second is still filming so at this time we are unsure if all Farina’s scenes have already been shot or if a new actor will need to be brought for a reshoot.
