Halloween Means More Free Comic Books

Halloween Means More Free Comic Books

July 12, 2013 By Mike Hickerson Leave a Comment

halloweencomicsfestThis year instead of just getting candy for Halloween, you could pick up a free comic book or two.

A second Free Comic Book event has been added to the calendar for 2013 and it falls close to Halloween.

Diamond Comic Distributors yesterday announced the sixteen publishers taking part in this year’s Halloween ComicFest, a two-day event in which participating comic stores will have 22 mostly-seasonally-themed comics to share with adults and kids looking for a few more four-color scares in their lives.

Taking place across the weekend before Halloween – That’s October 26 and 27, for those without a calendar to hand – stores are also being encouraged to set-up their own special displays and activities (such as costume contests) to draw in new business in the run-up to the year-end holiday season.

Both Marvel and DC are offering two titles apiece as part of the promotion, although all four freebies are reprints (Marvel offers the entirely un-Halloween-y Ultimate Spider-Man Adventures #1 and Thor: God of Thunder #1, while DC gets in the mood with Batman: Li’l Gotham #1 and Batman: The Long Halloween #1).

California-based indie IDW Publishing also offers two books, both animated tie-ins. TheCartoon Network Super Sampler focuses on the publisher’s new CN licenses with stories from Ben 10, Samurai Jack and Powerpuff Girls, while the My Little Pony: Halloween Edition promises to be much sought-after by the many brionies out there.
