Director Nicholas Meyer gave us two of the best entries in the Star Trek franchise.
For his next project, Meyer wants to look at the men and women who first journeyed into the final frontier. Meyer is working on a pilot project that would focus on the space race in the 1960’s.
He has been hired to adapt Matthew Brzezinski’s book Red Moon Rising: Sputnik And The Hidden Rivalries That Ignited the Space Age for television, Deadline reports.
The planned series would chart the race between the US and the USSR to achieve space travel, charting the period from the end of World War 2 to the 1960s and the Cold War.
Cold War experts will be consulted to ensure authenticity in the as-yet-untitled series.
Meyer’s additional credits include the screenplay for 2008 film Elegy and 2003’s The Human Stain.
