Fans Ask Carrey to Donate “Kick-Ass 2” Fee to Charity

Fans Ask Carrey to Donate “Kick-Ass 2” Fee to Charity

June 24, 2013 By Mike Hickerson 2 Comments

Earlier today we reported that actor Jim Carrey has decided not to publicize the upcoming Kick-Ass 2.

In response, fans have asked the actor to donate this salary from the film to charity.

Carrey is not promoting the film due to his feelings about violence in schools and the recent events at Sandy Hook.

Fans responded saying that if Carey feels that strongly, he should donate the money he made for the role to charities that look to prevent future tragedies.

No word yet on if and how Carey will respond.

However, it didn’t take long for Kick-Ass creator Mark Millar to admit he is “baffled” by Carrey’s decision.  Millar addressed the situation on his forum.

“As you may know, Jim is a passionate advocate of gun-control and I respect both his politics and his opinion, but I’m baffled by this sudden announcement as nothing seen in this picture wasn’t in the screenplay eighteen months ago,” Millar wrote. “Yes, the body-count is very high, but a movie called Kick-Ass 2 really has to do what it says on the tin. A sequel to the picture that gave us Hit-Girl was always going to have some blood on the floor and this should have been no shock to a guy who enjoyed the first movie so much.”

Millar also spoke of the supposed link between fictional violence influencing the real world, adding: “I’ve never quite bought the notion that violence in fiction leads to violence in real life any more than Harry Potter casting a spell creates more Boy Wizards in real life. “Our job as storytellers is to entertain and our toolbox can’t be sabotaged by curtailing the use of guns in an action movie.”

The Kick-Ass 2 producer described Carrey’s turn as Stars and Stripes as one of his “best-ever performances” and concluded his forum post by asking the star to reconsider his stance on promoting the film.

You know, all of this gun-violence could be avoided without impeding on the second amendment, and that’s making bullets cost $500 each.

Seriously, if you do that, then you know that anyone who gets shot deserves it.
