The low-budget thriller The Purge scared up $34 million in its opening weekend, making the decision for a sequel pretty much a given.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Universal and producer Jason Blum are working on a sequel.
No word yet on if original script writer and director James DeMonaco will be involved with the sequel.
The movie’s world is rife for continued exploration as the story is set in a society where once a year, there’s a 12-hour period when all crime is allowed and condoned.
