Looks like audiences were in the mood to purge from the typical Hollywood big-budget blockbuster this weekend.
The Purge surprised analysts with $36.4 million in ticket sales and captured the top spot at the box-office. It knocked the sixth Fast and Furious movie out of the top spot its held for the past two weeks and did better than the new comedy The Internship.
Fast and Furious 6 took in $19.5 million, followed by Now You See Me with $19.1 million.
The Internship took in $18.1 million and the animated Epic rounded out the top five.
