We already know that Zach Snyder is tweaking the Superman mythology a bit with the upcoming Man of Steel.
But did you know that Snyder is leaving out a key element of the Superman mythology from the reboot?
According to Entertainment Weekly, kryptonite will not appear in the film.
Snyder says its because he doesn’t believe that the green glowing rock that weakens Superman is necessary for his take on the iconic superhero. Snyder believes that Superman and Clark Kent will take enough on a emotional battering in the film that there is no need to pile on with kryptonite.
“Although he is not susceptible to the frailties of mankind, he is definitely susceptible to the emotional frailties,” adds the man bringing Superman to life in the new movie, Henry Cavill.
That isn’t, of course, to say that we can’t or won’t see kryptonite show up in a sequel. But it won’t be part of Man of Steel.
