The reboot of the Evil Dead scared up $30.5 million in ticket sales this weekend to debut at the top of the box-office.
The total was well above what Hollywood analysts predicted for the horror movie.
The Croods and G.I. Joe: Retaliation claimed the No. 2 and No. 3 spots at the box office though we won’t know which film won until later today. Both holdover movies went down to a photo finish with initial estimates coming it at $21 million each for the weekend.
Universal’s 3D rerelease of Jurassic Park also turned in a pleasing performance, coming in fourth with $18.2 million.
Fifth place went to Olympus Has Fallen with $10.4 million.
