The gamble to delay G.I. Joe: Retaliation from the summer to the winter paid off for Paramount. The opening weekend of the movie took in close to $50 million. That figure is good enough for the green light to be given for a third installment.
Variety confirmed the story yesterday, along with quotes from studio executives saying the delay gave the creative team time to think through the use of 3-D in the film.
And no, it wasn’t an April Fool’s joke either.
