Any time a popular book is adapted for the silver screen, there are certain changes that are made.
So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that there will be differences between the book version of World War Z and the screen version.
One of those changes is that the zombies have changed from slow, rambling zombies in the novel into something more scientifically based.
Star and producer Brad Pitt tells EW the reasoning behind making such a fundamental change to the source material.
“The book focused on slow zombies. We chose to be more dynamic in that we wanted to base all of this on science. So it’s ‘What if we had them move like ants? Or a swarm of bees? Or birds or a school of fish that’s being chased?’ One of the first [questions] we asked was how to portray the zombies and how to do it differently because it’s been done so many times and been done pretty damn well,” Pitt say.
So, do you think the changes will help the story or will they be too big a distraction?
Liar! They chose fast zombies because they’re scarier. They didn’t want to try too hard to make the plot decent, so they thought that they’d throw in some fast zombies and hope that the scare factor makes it watchable.
The original Max Brooks zombies have enough lore for you to make it all sciency.
Besides, World War Z isn’t about the science of how the zombies are functioning, but rather about how civilization survives and recovers.
I’m waiting to hear about the movie turns out after the rewrite, the reshoot, etc etc etc and how if it shows itself to be WWZ in name only compared to the book. I have a feeling we’ll get more entertainment value from the re-release of the redone Audio version.
