The opening for Bates Motel was a solid one.
The new Pyscho prequel series debuted Monday evening on A&E to three million viewers.
Although the network’s 2012 launch of Longmire brought in a higher number of total viewers, Bates Motel picked up record ratings in the adult demographic.
Across all broadcasts, Bates Motel was watched by 4.6 million total viewers, including 2.5 million adults 25-54 and 2.4 million adults 18-49. This makes it A&E’s highest-rated drama series premiere among adult demographics.
President of A&E Bob DeBitetto said: “Bates Motel represents the very best of quality storytelling with an incredible cast led by Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore. We are extremely pleased with the initial viewer response to this edgy and provocative series and are confident that it will continue to draw in new audiences.”
