The 2013 Fundamental Physics Prize was awarded to Alexander Polyakov on the evening of March 20, 2013 at a ceremony held in Geneva, Switzerland. Polyakov was awarded the prize for his many discoveries in field theory and string theory.
Actor and science enthusiast Morgan Freeman was on hand to host the event that also recognized 16 other outstanding scientists. Including Stephen Hawking and the lead scientists from CERN that discovered the long sought after Higgs-Boson particle.
“The Fundamental Physics Prize celebrates what is possible in humanity’s quest to understand the deepest questions of the universe. It is humbling to be surrounded by so much brain power and I’m excited by the promise of future discovery they represent.” commented Yuri Milner, founder of the Milner Foundation.
