Which Major Marvel Character Is Dying?

Which Major Marvel Character Is Dying?

September 13, 2012 By Mike Hickerson 2 Comments

Warning: The following article reveals which major Marvel character dies.  If you don’t want to know, please turn back now!

Stop us if you’ve heard this one, but a major comic book character is dying.

However, this time Marvel insists the death will stick.  In the latest issue of Avengers vs. X-Men, long-time X-Men leader Charles Xavier dies.

That’s not the most shocking detail about his death.  Xavier dies at the hands of Scott Summers, better known as Cyclops.  Summers was possessed by the Phoenix in a previous issue.

Marvel says it did not plan Xavier’s death when initially plotting the event. But as writer Brian Michael Bendis pushed forward with the story, “it became obvious that this had to be the last stand of Charles Xavier,” Marvel editor-in-chief Alexo Alonso told the Associated Press.

It’s an adage among comic book aficionados that “no one in comics stays dead” (with a few notable exceptions). With that in mind, fans took to Twitter to express doubt that Xavier will stay dead for long.

    He’s died… 1, 2….. THREE times so far… I have to say, this is becoming a habit.

He keeps hoping he’ll regenerate with hair next time.
