Who Was Embarrassed by the Original “Total Recall?”

Who Was Embarrassed by the Original “Total Recall?”

August 7, 2012 By Michael Hickerson Leave a Comment

The original Total Recall may not be a classic, but it’s still an entertaining genre action movie.

However, one of the actors involved says she is embarrassed by her participation in the film.

Actress Lycia Naff, who played the three-breasted woman in the original says she is “embarrassed” by the role.

“I felt really exposed,” she said. “It didn’t hit me until the first moment where the scene called for me to expose myself, because what came over me was such shame. Which was weird, because they weren’t my breasts, and it was what I had signed up to do.”

Naff, 49, added that she started to cry during filming.

“If you look closely at those scenes when I’m opening my blouse, I’m smiling, but not in my eyes,” she said. “It was probably good for the character and gave her an extra layer, but that was completely unplanned. I was just feeling really emotional and trying to hide it. I was embarrassed, and I was embarrassed for feeling embarrassed. I couldn’t get over that feeling that opening up my blouse felt so real.”

Naff went on to say that director Paul Verhoven originally wanted the character to have four breasts, but that plan was scrapped because it looked “too bovine.”

“But the feedback was that I looked too bovine, like a cow ready to be milked, and that wasn’t sexy,” she said.

And while Naff may be embarrassed by the scene, her character has become a someone iconic one from the film.   The scene was so memorable that one of the biggest questions surrounding the new Recall was whether or not the three-breasted woman would appear.  Director Len Wiseman made sure to include the three-breasted woman in the new version.
