Urban Promises Huge “Star Trek” News

Urban Promises Huge “Star Trek” News

July 13, 2012 By Mike Hickerson 1 Comment

After months of being kept in the dark, Karl Urban let the tribble out of the storage compartment earlier this week when he revealed the adversary for the upcoming Star Trek sequel.

If you still don’t know and don’t want to know, stop reading now. And you may want to avoid coverage of ComicCon because the news is probably going to be confirmed by the end of the weekend and will be all over the Internet.

Urban let slip that Benedict Cumberbatch is taking on the role of Gary Mitchell. Mitchell was originally featured in “Where No Man Has Gone Before” and was Kirk’s best friend from the Academy days. When the Enterprise encountered a mysterious barrier at the edge of the galaxy, Mitchell acquired god-like powers and soon threatened the ship and civilization as we know it.

So why did Urban let the news slip?

During the ComicCon panel for the upcoming Dredd, Urban revealed he was asked about the next Trek after a 22 hour flight and it slipped out in his jet-lag.

But Urban promised fans we’ll find out even more about the new Trek by the time ComicCon ends.

“I can promise you that before the end of Comic-Con, some exclusive Star Trekfootage, it’s going to come out. You’re going to find it. It’s going to come out,” he said.

What that means remains to be seen.  As soon as we hear something, we’ll let you know.

As a refresher, here’s the original preview for “Where No Man Has Gone Before.” The remastered episode is available via Netflix streaming.
