Aliens and Vampires Coming to Starz

Aliens and Vampires Coming to Starz

July 12, 2012 By Mike Hickerson 4 Comments

Now that Spartacus is history, Starz is looking to develop a couple of new series centering on aliens and vampires for its line-up.

According to EW, the cable outlet is working with Steven S. DeKnight on a project called Incursion.  The series follows a squad of soldiers caught in a war against a hostile alien race.

In a statement, Starz said, “Each season the battle will be fought on a new, exotic planet as humanity punches deeper into enemy territory. Grittily realistic combat, darkly complex characters and intrigue on a cosmic scale will permeate the tale of fighting men and women facing the pressures of war and an enemy unlike any ever seen.”

The network is also working with J. Michael Straczynski (who created a little show called Babylon Five) Roy Lee  and Rob Tapert on a series about Vlad Dracula.

Starz says the project is a “unique spin of the classic tale, blending the historical facts of the 15th century Prince of Wallachia, with the fictional Dracula whose story is known around the world and continues to fascinate audiences.  Vlad Dracula traces his evolution from a revered ruler to the world’s most feared vampire, and his slow downfall as he struggles desperately to hang on to his humanity, his wife and his kingdom.”

Hopeful news. Clearly Syfy isn’t interested in science fiction currently and I am interested to see what Starz does with the genre. I would REALLY like to see HBO do a quality science fiction show.

    Another vampire show? Meh.

We’ll have to give these a look. I just hope they aren’t just an excuse for X-rated scenes instead of really story and drama.

It’s been interesting to see how much True Blood has pulled back from all the sex scenes this year.

If they were going to brush up against the X ratings, it’d be airing on Skinemax 🙂 Then again, Spartacus got kinda racy, didn’t it…

Incusion sounds a lot like a racier version of Space: Above and Beyond!

Space Marines battling alien bugs across the universe. Was a good show.

We’ll see if this show is better than Falling Skies.

As for the other one, I’m also interested. After Spartacus and Camelot, I’ll try anything Starz offers up.
