Warning: If you don’t want to know the identity of the villain for the next Star Trek movie, st0p reading now!
Has actor Karl Urban let slip who the next adversary will be in the rebooted Star Trek universe?
It appears he may have.
Talking to SFX for the upcoming release of Dredd, Urban was asked about what it’s like to work with Benedict Cumberbatch. And Urban’s response revealed who the Batch is playing.
Again, if you don’t want to know, stop reading.
“He’s awesome, he’s a great addition, and I think his Gary Mitchell is going to be exemplary,” Urban says.
This reveal flies in the face of what writer Roberto Orci said a few weeks ago when he gave us a list of characters who would NOT be included in the film.
However, having Mitchell as the adversary makes a lot of sense and could be a great move for franchise.
Anyone else think this is a misinformation campaign?
And who the heck was Gary Mitchell anyway?
@Indiana Jim Im wondering if you are asking that sarcastically, but then I realize not everyone was around when dinosaurs roamed the earth (like me).
He was a character in “Where No Man has Gone Before”, one of the original Trek series episodes. I think it was actually the 2nd pilot for the series after the studio was going to pass on it. One of the better ones from that time, I think….
It won’t be Gary Mitchell, they did that story in the comics for the rebooted universe already.
While the comic books have retold the Where No Man Has Gone Before storyline, they could bring MItchell back in a new and different storyline.
I’d love to see it!
Indiana Jim: Lt. Cmdr. Gary Mitchell (played by Gary Lockwood of 2001: A Space Odyssey fame) was Kirk’s old friend & one of Kirk’s student’s at Starfleet Academy when Kirk taught there for awhile right before taking over command of the Enterprise from Pike. It was Mitchell who introduced Kirk to Carol Marcus, whom Kirk almost married & had a son with (David Marcus – see: Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan). Kirk specifically asked for Mitchell to take the job of ship’s navigator when he became captain of the Enterprise. All this was revealed in the 1st Shatner episode titled “Where No Man Has Gone Before.”
And the episode is available via streaming from Netflix…so there is no excuse for anyone NOT to see it!
It’s been 30+ years since I remember seeing it but, wasn’t he the friend that somehow got endowed with god-like powers or something like that?
I won’t be surprised if it is a misinformation campaign to throw people off.
