Dafoe Calls Out “Amazing Spider-Man”

Dafoe Calls Out “Amazing Spider-Man”

July 9, 2012 By Mike Hickerson 11 Comments

Actor William Dafoe, who played the Green Goblin in the original Spider-Man says he couldn’t believe it when he heard the super-hero franchise was getting a reboot.

Dafoe tells  Empire  that he believes the new movie won’t capture what made the original installment special.

“I have lots of thoughts. Where do I start? I haven’t seen it. I don’t know what to say. I will say that I did see the preview and I was kind of shocked at how it’s another version of exactly the same story,” he says.  “Surprising. I wish them well, but I think it’s hard to beat the charm, the naive charm, of the first one. There’s never really any possibility of going back.”

Do you agree with Dafoe?  What are your thoughts on the new Spider-Man movie?

If hasn’t seen it, then what is word worth?

Plus, it WASN’T the EXACT same story… in fact, it was a MUCH MUCH improved upon version of Raimi’s version. Mostly because Andrew Garfield is a better Peter Parker and Spiderman (IMO)and Defoe’s Green Goblim was also just silly. I didn’t mind his interpretation, it’s just that I always found his characterization silly and… Raimi-ish.

Much respect to what Raimi brought to us… especially Spider-Man 2… but, I’m glad to see a more solid and better paced Spider-Man franchise see the light of day.

Raimi’s Spider Man was a cartoon starring real people. Plus any action movie with a Danny Elfman score deserves to be redone. I hate Elfman’s action scores.

hee… so I wasn’t the only one who preferred Prince’s Batman soundtrack to Elfman’s Batman score? Nice!

Sorry but the latest Spiderman was not as good as the first two Rami versions. That is a fact!

It is, in fact, an opinion but one that I agree with.

Pretty sure this movie was just the studio having to exercise its licensing/rights on the character. They have to produce something using the character in a given period of time, or Marvel gets the rights back.

Once they beat this franchise to death (good or bad) and have to let the rights for Spiderman revert back to Marvel, it will be interesting to see what Marvel Studios does with it.

I’m saving my $11 (?) bucks for Batman, I’ll catch Spidey on DVD later this year.

This is a tough one to call I loved / hated parts of each movie and as it turns out the parts I loved about Amazing were changes to the parts I hated in the original and vise versa.

I had no interest in seeing the reboot. I thought it was too soon for one. But my daughter talked me into going to see it and I was blown away. It’s much better than the Sam Raimi versions.

Haven’t seen it yet but I’m hoping for something good. The first 3 films by Raimi were so horrible that I’m skeptical.

I thought the first Raimi movie was just dull as was Dafoe’s performance so I don’t see what was special. I thought Ang Lee’s Hulk was a more a engaging story. Spiderman 2 was the only one that really pulled me in. So although I think re-telling an origin is silly chances are I will find it an improvement.
