The animated feature Madagascar 3 held off two high profile summer movies to once again claim the top spot at the box-office.
The third installment in the series took in $35.5 million, according to studio estimates from Hollywood.com.
Prometheus also held off the weekend’s new competition. The graphic sci-fi film took second place for the second week, this time earning $20.2 million. The Ridley Scott drama has earned $88.9 million over two weekends.
Tom Cruise’s Rock of Ages entered the weekend at third with $ $15.1 million. Analysts expected the movie to open around $25 million.
The fairy tale twist Snow White and the Huntsman took No. 4 with $13.8 million. The film has earned $122.6 million since its release June 1.
Adam Sandler’s latest vilified comedy, That’s My Boy, also underperformed, taking fifth with $13 million.
