When John Carter hit stores this week, Disney didn’t provide rental copies to Redbox.
Instead, Disney is joining Universal, Fox, and Warner Bros in not providing rental copies to the low price rental company for the first 28 days a movie is in release. But Redbox has decided they aren’t going to play along and will soon be adding John Carter to their kiosks.
The company will simply buy discs from retailers so it can offer them for rental by June 12.
“Redbox has always worked with Disney on a per title basis, without a contract,” the Coinstar-owned company says. “We will be sourcing John Carter through alternative means.”
Redbox followed a similar pattern for Warner Brothers releases after the company imposed a 56-day rental window on the company.
