SciFi To SciFact: “Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol” Car

SciFi To SciFact: “Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol” Car

May 17, 2012 By Michael Hickerson Leave a Comment

One of the technological wonders of Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol has gone from sci-fi to sci-fact.

In the movie, Ethan Hunt (played by Tom Cruise) manipulates a map superimposed on the car’s windshield.  Pioneer has made that technology a reality with the introduction of the Carrozzeria Cyber Navi AR heads-up display.

The display puts an augmented reality-style graphic in front of the driver allowing him to see the streets overlayed with real-time GPS mapping information and directions.

The system is scheduled to hit the streets of Japan in July, but there’s no word on when this might get to the U.S.

And while you can’t manipulate the system by touch like Hunt does in the film, it’s still a first step toward making what was once Impossible a reality.
