Publicity in “The Avengers” Boosts Food Sales

Publicity in “The Avengers” Boosts Food Sales

May 9, 2012 By Mike Hickerson 4 Comments

In the closing moments of The Avengers, Tony Stark mentions that once the adventure is over, he’d love to try a certain type of food.

And if you stay all the way through the credits, you’ll see that the Avengers do, in fact, take a few moments out to enjoy the food.

The food in question is shawarma and it appears that it’s getting a bump in sales thanks to the hit film.

According to TMZ, shawarma restaurants in New York have seen an increase in business this week.   TMZ estimates that sales have shot up 80 percent since the film opened last weekend.

So, have you tried shawarma before?  Are you more likely to now that it was mentioned in The Avengers?  And did you stay all the way through the credits for the second post-credits sequence?

Just got back from the Avengers, and yes, we stayed for both extra scenes. Here in our part of Maryland, there’s a restaurant we go to for shawarma occasionally. The scene you described, the post battle chow down, was awesome.

The movie was amazing by the way. I mean, really really really amazing. It’s possible Brian Brown might not even dismiss it with his “meh” go-to comment…

We have a shawarma place literally on the corner from our home. Plus maybe a dozen others in easy driving distance. It is regional favourite in this area of Quebec.

I had to look up what shawarma is – basically it looks like what we in Australia call either yiros or kabab, and there is usually a place that sells them in every shopping mall. Very nice, but no, the movie did not make me want to rush out and get one…
