By now, you’ve probably heard who Benedict Cumberbatch is playing in the upcoming Star Trek sequel. (If not, we won’t tell you here so there won’t be any SPOILERS)
Recently, Cumberbatch sat down with MTV and was tested about his knowledge of Trek.
Cumberbatch claims he doesn’t know what a Klingon is, and makes a joke about broken fingers when shown the traditional Vulcan “live long and prosper” split-finger salute.
“I think it’s best to, like a lot of acting you do, you have to start from a knowledge base of zero in order to have every experience that you’re portraying again and again and again feel like fresh,” Cumberbatch said dryly. “So I purposefully made no attempt to learn anything about anything.”
It appears Cumberbatch isn’t all that familiar with “the final frontier.”

Speaking of Star Trek, we lost another great character actor this week. George Murdock, who played the false God in Star Trek V & other lead guest roles in other Star Trek TV series has died at age 81. He was one of the best character actors in the business & will be greatly missed. He is best known for his sleazy detective Lt. Ben Scanlon. He was a fixture on shows like The X-Files, the original Battlestar Galactica (he played Salik) & so many more wonderful characters in his 5 decades of acting.
Simon Pegg reveals that Cumberbatch will not be playing Khan in the next Star Trek movie. He can’t say who the character will be but says that it’s not the role made famous by Ricardo Montalban in Space Seed and Wrath of Khan.
