Get ready to spent a little extra money to see The Dark Knight Rises.
After embracing the IMAX technology to film several key action sequences in The Dark Knight, director Christopher Nolan has taken the next step and filmed a bigger chunk of The Dark Knight Rises using IMAX technology. Initial reports indicated the running time of the specially filmed footage could be as much as 40 minutes, but it has since grown.
The Wall Street Journal reports that Nolan’s cut of the film uses close to sixty minutes of footage shot using IMAX technology.
“There was a huge irony that we were told it would be too difficult to shoot a Hollywood movie on IMAX,” says Nolan, “when we had this gigantic camera department, grips, electric… hundreds of people working for us.”
“These were cameras that had been to the top of Mount Everest,” he continues, “to the bottom of the ocean and into outer space, but people thought we couldn’t make a feature film. It was absurd.”
Sounds like it will be worth the extra ticket price to see the film on an IMAX screen, if you have one in your area.
