“Fringe” Shot Two Season Finales

“Fringe” Shot Two Season Finales

April 13, 2012 By Mike Hickerson 4 Comments

While we may not yet know whether Fringe will be back next year, producers for the series hedged their bets and have shot two season finales–one if the show gets renewed and one for if the show doesn’t.

John Noble tells TV Line that two final scenes for the fourth season were shot–one that wraps up everything and one that leaves a few threads open for a fifth season.

The big questions will be answered, Noble said, including Olivia’s fated “death,” and baddie David Robert Jones’ role in all this.

“[Jones plays] a very big part, but not as big as you think,” Noble said. “There’s something bigger.”

Fellow actor Joshua Jackson added that writers will leave one final door open that could make for an intriguing final chapter for the series.

“The writers have given themselves a device by which we can tell a fifth-season story without having to leave this season’s story open,” he said. “The door to the fifth season is opened in Episode 19 (airing April 20),” Jackson teased. “If you watch that, you’ll have an understanding of where they want to take the series.”

This is a good thing. It is extraordinarily aggravating when a show with a storyline fails to complete that storyline.

I’d love to see a fifth season but if we don’t get one I’m happy that at least they have a way to wrap everything up. More shows should do this if they are on the bubble.

FWLIW, I kinda think that Olivia “becoming” Peter’s Olivia means the death of that reality’s Olivia. But that’s just my take on it and likely has nothing to do with what will actually happen.

I just recently read an interview with the producers of Fringe and they said that there WASN’T a second ending filmed in the event that the series didn’t get picked up, but it was only something that they talked about.

Bummer really because I was hoping to see that other ending once this season came out on Blu-Ray/DVD.
