Alcatraz completed its first season Monday night and while many fans are hoping for a second season, prodcuer Daniel Pyne admits that the future is “in doubt.”
“I wish the numbers had been better,” he told TV Guide. “I mean, they weren’t terrible. But we keep just slipping a little bit, which I’m not wild about.”
Despite the ratings, Pyne insisted that he was happy with the two-part finale.
I thought both episodes showed the breadth of the show and the potential for where it can go,” he said. “It’s kind of exploded now. It can go so many different directions and so many things can happen. It’s very exciting.”
The producer also suggested that Alcatraz could continue as “online short stories” if Fox declines to renew the series.
“We haven’t planned on anything yet, but we’ll deal with that when the time comes,” he said. “But if we don’t get picked up, yeah, we’ll have to figure out some other way.”
