New Space Race Begins

New Space Race Begins

March 15, 2012 By Mike Hickerson 6 Comments

Russia has kicked off what some believe could be a second space race.

Russia wants to make a trip to the moon and they announced they’ll do it by the year 2030.

The deadline comes from leaked documents from  Russia’s national space agency Roskosmos.   This is reportedly the first time that the agency has set a deadline.

The deadline raises the question of if and how NASA will respond.

In the 1960’s, Russia started the space race with the first ever human being to orbit the Earth.  At the time, President John F. Kennedy promised the United States would get to the moon by the end of the decade.   The U.S. accomplished this goal in 1969 and has sent several other lunar missions.

Now with cuts to NASA’s budget, the question of whether this could be a second space race are being asked.

Not much of a race when someone has already been to the moon.

I was being sarcastic-thus the smiley face.

I certainly believe we landed on the moon and I am pissed we haven’t been back in 40 years.

My recent favorite is the orbiter pics of the landing site: http://bit.ly/xbqJlP

Well, it’s easy to win the race when your main competitor has already forfeited.

Russia’s chief agent in the United States (Obama) has guaranteed a Russian Win. Makes you wonder what Russia is putting on the Moon? A Missile platform?
