If you’re planning to buy the upcoming Before Watchmen mini-series from DC, original Watchmen creator Alan Moore has a message for you–stop buying his other comics.
In fact, Moore doesn’t want you reading any of his work ever again.
“I have a huge respect for my audience. On the occasions when I meet them, they seem, I like to think, to be intelligent and scrupulous people. If people do want to go out and buy these Watchmen prequels, they would be doing me an enormous favor if they would just stop buying my other books. When I think of my audience, I like to have good thoughts and think about how lucky I am to have one that is as intelligent as mine and as moral as mine,” Moore says.
Moore goes on to say that had he been asked, he a few ideas on how the award-winning graphic novel could have continued.
“I know a way that they could have sorted out their continuity. I could have gotten rid of all of their problems for them. It would have been really simple. But, like I say, they unfortunately alienated me,” Moore says.

George Lucas called. He said, “Alan, I am your father. Come, join me in hording our IPs and we will rule fandom as father and son.”

If the whiny bastard wants to “take his ball and go home”, maybe everyone that has ever bought his works should mail them back and insist on a full refund.

Seriously? Don’t get me wrong I loved Watchmen, and for that matter I loved League of Extraordinary Gentlemen too, but it’s not like he owned the characters or they were original or anything. Watchmen was just a reimaging of the old Charleton Comics characters (a very very good reimaging) that DC owned, not something that popped whole out of his wildman rasputin looking head. I agree with Alverant, Come on Alan don’t be a George Lucas! You got too play with someone elses ideas, now let someone else do the same!
