Sean Patrick Thomas has been chosen for the CW’s Hunger Games-like pilot The Selection.
The project is described as an epic romance set 300 years in the future in which a poor young woman is chosen by lottery to participate in a competition to become the next queen of a war-torn nation at a crossroads.
Thomas will play Sylvan Santos, a close adviser to the current queen and an expert in royal etiquette who advises the participants in the competition.
Thomas starred opposite Julia Styles in Save the Last Dance and appeared on the CW’s Ringer this season.
He joins Friday Night Lights alum Aimee Teegarden and 10 Things I Hate About You‘s Ethan Peck in the project.
Teegarden play a poor young woman who competes become the next queen. For his part, Peck will play the handsome and regal Prince Maxon, whom the girls are competing to marry.
The series is based on a series of books by Kiera Cass. The tv version will be produced by Sarah Craft and Elizabeth Fain, who worked on Angel.
